Books help us process and broaden our experiences. Doctor Li and the Crown-wearing Virus, is a new book to help kids process the disruption of the COVID19 pandemic. Written by Francesca Cavallo, the New York Times best-selling co-author of Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls and illustrated by Claudia Flandoli, Doctor Li and the Crown-wearing Virus explores the life of the eye doctor in China, Dr. Li, who first altered science to this virus and expands out to talk about how the world is coping with the pandemic. The book is aimed at kids aged 8 and up, but I’m sure that just like when we read Rebel Girls at bedtime, my younger daughter will get something out of it too!
Multiple Languages Available!
Francesca wrote a short version of Dr. Li and the Crown-wearing Virus early on in the pandemic and posted it here. Fans of the book quickly translated it into over 48 languages. This is part of what is exciting about this book. It will immediately be available in 4 languages – English, Italian, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. I love the approachable, accurate, and empathetic approach that Francesca uses to talk about the pandemic, it’s heroes, and how we all are experiencing this unusual and trying time.
